The outback line of grid tie (sell back) solar inverters has proven to be the most flexible and tolerant of surges of all the inverters on the market. Why? Maybe that ugly black case with optional data display somewhere else where it makes sense to put it. This is a 3KW/48VDC battery model which means you can run as a grid tie and sell power to the grid, if the grid fails you can run stand alone off 4x12VDC deep cell batts (I recently had a 45 min grid outage and using ordinary marine 100ah batts ran down to 2/5 charge running my house on an outback 48/3kw unit) - be careful as most solar companies these days are not giving you the option to put batteries into the system and have the flexibility to run during a power failure. Obviously this is not the time to run the electric stove or the washer but if you conserve (i have alot of networking and microwave transmitters running 24x7) then you'll make it through.
